HAPPY BIRTHDAY…

Barbie Thompson had a birthday yesterday. You might be wondering who Barbie is. She is a patron of The Playhouse. She was introduced to it a few years ago by a friend from Chambersburg. Her husband wanted to do something special for her on this milestone occasion (which is all I’m saying about her age, it was a milestone), and so he rented a limousine and brought her to The Playhouse in style. She thought that was the birthday surprise.

Of course, before the limo ride came all of the detail work; like “secretly” inviting 110 friends and family members to the surprise party, including a nephew from Tennessee, who was to hide backstage until the conclusion of NUNSENSE II before making his appearance in an Elvis jumpsuit to sing 7 of her favorite Elvis classics.

It was a successful surprise. We got her all the into the theater before she realized that she was the guest of honor. I’ve never seen so many people shed so many tears of joy in my whole life. It was a wonderful evening and we’re proud to have been chosen the venue for such a happy event. In fact, we hope that we might be part of more and more such experiences through the coming years. So, what’s going on in your life that you’d like to celebrate? May we be of any assistance? Give us a call.

Guess what’s coming to The Washington County Playhouse.

A TWENTY-EIGHTH SEASON!

It will begin in May. Season tickets will go on sale in March. We’ll be advertising the lineup as soon as we get all the contracts back for the shows. And, in addition to the well-known season ticket, we will be adding a new feature called a V.I.P. Pass. Details will follow, but for now, we just want to thank all of you who helped us organize our thoughts and design a new strategy so that we can continue to offer good food and quality stage productions at reasonable prices. Thank you everyone. Thank you so very much.

These ladies are just what you need. If you’re tired of sitting at home on the weekends, watching TV, eating pizza, and you are ready for some singing, dancing, and general foolishness, just call and reserve your seats for this weekend. However, there are no more seats available for this Friday evening…it is SOLD OUT. But there are good seats still available for Saturday night. And we have a matinee this Sunday afternoon, the 12th. Also, considering that Valentine’s Day is only a couple of day’s later, come to the matinee as kind of an early “lover’s day date.” We’d love to see you. The show is a hoot, a genuine hoot. Come on back and see the Little Sisters of Hoboken put on another show. In this, the sequel, Sister Mary Paul, aka Sister Amnesia, becomes the target of the Franciscans’ attempt to claim that she is actually one of them. That means that she, and the fortune she won from Publisher’s Clearing House, are going to have to leave Hoboken. Stars Vicki Leisher, Renee Levin, Laura Speis, Kelly Kozlowski & Heather Watkins. This is a hit. Book early. Book often.

A “NEW” GLIMMER OF HOPE

We said we’d keep those who are interested up to date with developments. This is a bit premature, but we may have devised a strategy by which THE PLAYHOUSE would be able to begin a new season in May or June. We can’t say anything more at this point, except to say that we are excited and encouraged by the possibility. More to follow. Keep your eyes on this site.

GOD’S FAVORITE IS GONE

Well, at least the Neil Simon play which has been on the stage for the past month is…gone that is. I will miss it. Artistically, it was phenomenal. I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to let these characters rise up from the script pages and honestly live for a few weeks. I loved every performance. And, there are several hundred people in the area who had never heard of the play, now very happy to have seen it. We’d love to do more of this. Let us know if you’d like to see more.

The “Lorrie Awards” for 2010 – 2011 season were presented at The Playhouse annual holiday party on Sunday, December 17. Of the eleven awards, four were from the best selling show of the season, GREASE. Interestingly, the poorest attended show of the season, BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, by Neil Simon, also garnered four awards. Following are details.
